During Club Night, the Newspaper table had a book of story prompts and asked some people to pick a prompt and write a short story based on it. Here are a few of the stories:
Prompt: A Camping Trip in Which No One Has Ever Been Camping Before.
Lacey, Valentina, and I got a van and just drove. We didn't know where we were going, but we were going. We found a nice campsite and went outdoors, only to find out how humid it was and how it would affect our hair. We went back into the RV and left. That was our first time camping. - Laurie M.
Prompt: Anonymous Gifts Start Arriving at the Doorstep.
It was 4:00 a.m. when I heard a knock at the door, so I went back to sleep. When I finally awoke and opened the door, I was surprised find my yard littered with gifts, some big and some small. I took them in and opened them; all completely empty. Days passed and I was still perplexed by this event. Then it happened again, night after night presents full of air showed up in my yard and the boxes kept pilling up. I had enough, I was fed up with this tomfoolery and destroyed every last one. Ever since then, I never saw a gift again, ever. - Ethan S. Prompt: Fired From a Long-Term Job.
I just got fired from my job at the office. I've given them so many years and couldn't believe they would betray me like that. So, I decided to get revenge. I hid cheese in secret places and then after a few days everything should take effect... - Laurie M.
Prompt: The Characters Are Aware That They're Fictional. The dragon headed toward us, stalking us like we were it's prey. I snorted, it was all too hilarious, the idea that we were in any danger from this creature or any other. We were the main characters for goodness sake! If we die, it won't be until the last few chapters of the book. " Watch out!" shouted the princess. I had easily rescued her from a tower a few minutes ago with the dragon apparently absent throughout the whole event. I looked at her and we both fell down laughing. I carelessly threw my sword at the dragon and watched as the blade impaled it. Except it didn't. The dragon took one look at me and sprinted forward, blowing fire that scorched my arms. This shouldn't be happening. I guess we're at the end of the book; I finally have to fight. - Devon G.
